If you’re thinking of heading to Orlando, then you probably have already considered the big, bombastic theme parks. However, monstrous theme parks are not all there is to see and do. There are many lesser-known attractions that still provide a lot of fun, and may also offer a change of pace from those larger attractions. Here are some of the top lesser-known attractions to see in Orlando.
Gatorland
Gatorland is known as the “Alligator Capital of the World.” If the local Florida wildlife fascinates you, then Gatorland is the place to go. Not only does it have plenty of alligators for you to examine and watch, but has lots of crocodiles as well. There is an aviary and a petting zoo as well (without alligators!). It even features a zip line for those who like a little daring action. Make sure to check out the Gator Jumparoo Show and the Wrestlin’ Show, too.
WonderWorks Orlando
If you are a more cerebral type, then WonderWorks may be just the place for you. It is located in an upside down building, and houses a massive ‘secret laboratory” with different zones designed for fun and interactive learning. There is a “light and sound” zone, a “space discovery” zone, and “imagination lab,” just to name a few. It is truly an “amusement park for the mind” that will delight your family whether you are eggheads or not.
Legoland
Lego is considered one of the greatest toys ever invented, and this amusement park just adds to the fun. This attraction is obviously great for the kids, but nostalgic adults will find plenty to enjoy. There are theme rides based on Ninjago, “coastersaurus” and a royal joust. There are plenty of shows and demonstrations to see and marvel at as well.
Madame Tussauds
The famous wax museum has an outlet in Orlando and features all of your favorite celebs and politicians. There is a good chance that you can fool your friends into thinking you actually met a celebrity when you post a picture with their wax doppelganger. This museum is a lot of fun for the whole family.
Sea Life Aquarium
Sea Life Aquarium is a place to experience the wonders of the deep in a quieter way than the more famous SeaWorld. It features 5000 specimens swimming in a tunnel through which you can walk. All of the specimens on display have been rescued from bad situations in the wild, or are part of captive breeding programs to prevent extinction. You can support the creatures of the deep all while marveling at their beauty.
Skeletons Museum
For more educational entertainment, check out the Skeletons Museum of Osteology. This newer attraction features more than 400 skeletons of animals of all shapes and sizes. The intent is to be educational, but also to be fun at the same time.
